The Boiler Tech is a full-time, year-round position located in the Old Faithful area of Yellowstone National Park.

This position is responsible for the total daily operation and maintenance of boilers and related equipment.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Boiler Tech:

  • Operating, maintaining and repairing steam and hot water boilers and related systems to include: valves, pumps, piping, heat exchangers and boiler/motor control circuits.
  • Monitoring and reconciling boiler fuel inventories.
  • Documenting labor & materials expended in the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers and boiler-related systems.
  • Performing chemical testing and treatment of boiler water, condensate and hydronic systems.
  • Ensuring boiler safety devices are operational.
  • Monitoring boiler make-up feed water consumption and identifying trends in same.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Have at least two years’ experience in hands-on operation and maintenance of steam boilers.
  • Possess a working knowledge of boiler water chemistry testing and treatment methods.
  • Possess personal computer skills sufficient to efficiently work with Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly gain proficiency in company-specific CMMS software.
  • Possess a general knowledge of OSHA requirements and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Be able to read, understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Be capable of and willing to advance practical Boiler Technician knowledge and expertise through continuing education and professional certification.
  • Be capable and willing to mentor and train less experienced seasonal Boiler Technicians.
  • Must be at least 19 years old and possess a current, valid, driver’s license with a good driving record for the past 3 years.


Physical Requirements:

  • May be required to use respiratory protection and comply with applicable regulations.
  • Must be able to visually differentiate colors (required for boiler water testing).
  • Must be able to walk long distances over uneven terrain and climb stairs and ladders in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess physical stamina and condition to withstand heavy labor related work in warm, humid environments (boiler rooms).
  • May be required to stand, bend, kneel and crawl in the performance of his or her duties.
