Retail Associates take pride in helping guests find and purchase the perfect items to remind them of their vacation forever! We don’t sell souvenirs; we sell memories! Our Gift Shops provide a variety of items for guests to purchase while they are in Yellowstone, most of which are sustainable, regionally made and sourced, and/or made in the USA. We think that every guest who visits should be able to take home a memory of Yellowstone, and we provide items at a variety of price points. Each of our 9 stores has a different theme and sells different merchandise. Sales Associates have an in-depth knowledge of all of our products and have a passion for assisting guests with finding the perfect items and gifts to remember their Yellowstone experience.   • Provide and ensure excellent guest service by adhering to and enforcing Xanterra’s policy, procedures and service standards.
  • Ensure that all cashiers are performing their duties properly; ring up all sales before taking money, call out amount tendered in “dollars and cents”, place bills horizontally under clip, and count back change.
  • Demonstrate and train good sales techniques by performing suggestive selling and add-on sales. Follow up with staff to ensure add-on sales are occurring.
  • Ensure that the sales floor is kept clean; which includes sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and trash removal.
  • Ensure all displays are kept stocked, neat and clean.
  • Ensure that accurate helpful information is given to guests.
  • Alert the property Manager to shrinkage, guest problems and concerns.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with property Manager, other location department managers, Assistant Managers and subordinates.
  • Maintain accurate shop records: reports, transfers, payroll and inventory control.
  • Receive direct deliveries from suppliers and process the necessary documentation. Make certain that paperwork is routed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Schedule, supervise and develop gift shop personnel. Maintain proper employee files and provide feedback through evaluations (HIGs).
  • Ensure that registers are routinely cleaned. Report all register issues promptly.


Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Raymark POS system and ability to troubleshoot common problems.
  • Able to perform all duties of a Sales Associate. Be accurate with cash handling, daily reporting procedures and inventory control.
  • Able to coach employees to maintain high and consistent standards in the gift shop.
  • Thorough understanding of a retail operation in a high traffic seasonal environment.
  • Must be able to foster cooperation among a diverse workforce. Work well with all staff members.
  • Should have a basic knowledge and understanding of souvenirs, gifts, jewelry and other products sold within the property.
  • Able to work with a minimum of supervision. Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrate excellent sales approach and skills.
  • Demonstrate awareness of general gift shop security and theft prevention.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand/walk for a minimum eight-hour shift.
  • Frequently lift and carry cartons weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Carry boxes/product up and down stairs at most locations several times a day.
  • Must be able to bend down or kneel to stock product frequently during a shift.
